February 2390, During the annual Rigel Cup
"All right squad, this is it." As the members of Delta Squad powered up the engines of their highly modified Orca fighters and ran through their last pre-flight checks, the voice of Judith Rouse, or Sensei Judith as she was affectionately known by her squad, crackled through their communication systems. Delta Squad was neck and neck with the Blue Eagles before their final run. But a powerful performance in their final run put the Blue Eagles far out ahead. It would take a nearly perfect performance by Delta Squad to close that gap. "This is what we trained for. The finals in the Rigel Cup, the most prestigious aerobatics competition this side of the galaxy. I've seen you in action, and I know you have the talent to win. Just focus on your flying, and the cup is yours. And know that I'm proud of you no matter what."
"Thanks Sensei," Sera quickly replied. She looked back at the other Orcas in formation on the starting block. "Is everything green?" Sera asked the rest of her squad, in reference to their ships being ready. Sera took a look at the fighter's display readings as she fastened the oxygen mask to her helmet and brought down the helmet's polarized visor, creating a vacuum seal in her pilot suit.
The fighter's impulse engines rumbled as they eagerly waited to the command to bring them to life. Sera loved these engines, while flying they were efficient and powerful but on the ground they were wasteful and cumbersome. In her mind, she traced the line that the ships would take on the course, all of checkpoints, trick zones, and the places where they could really bring the speed. She was ready.
"This is Delta Four," came a rather happy but slow speech over the comm. Kahnr lounged in his cockpit, one arm up alongside the seam between hatch and bulkhead, the other tapped idly on his controls. The Betazoid tried to keep himself relaxed. When he'd first entered the Academy Kahnr had realised he could either let the training overwhelm him or learn to take things as they came. Perhaps he took the latter a bit too literally at times. "Things are looking A-O-K. All set to to make the Blue Chickens extra crispy with our exhaust on your word."
"Delta Five here." T'Kara said. Her voice a mixture Vulcan calm and barely controlled Klingon rage. "All systems appear to be operating within expected parameters. Just give the command and we will show these p'tarks the true colour of our hearts." This last bit was followed by a loud boastful laugh. Being of mixed heritage, the Security cadet liked to find ways to embrace both her Vulcan and Klingon cultures, often led to some strange instances, that had the added effect of confusing and intimidating her rivals.

"Delta Two checks out," replied Eoghan. After what happened with that Orion honey trap, he couldn't lose to the Blue Eagles. He would make Nara eat her words about his "performance" and be vindicated. "Time to show everyone who's really the best of the best."
"God speed, Delta Squad," chimed in Judith from the control tower. "See you at the finish line."
